Decal set for IJN Carrier Bomber Aircraft

When in 2003 first small decal sheet for Nakajima C6N1 Saiun (RD 48001) appeared on the market from then unknown small manufacturer Rising Decals from Czech Republic, I knew we will have some very interesting decals coming to us in the future.
In 2006 great decal sheet (RD 72008) covering Japanese Naval Carrier Bombers (offering options for 9 aircraft) came out, but didn't get well deserved review (mainly due to how quickly it sold out), it was clear that it was only matter of time when similar subject appears for popular 1/48th scale.

Year 2009 and here came sheet number RD 48008 Japanese Carrier Bombers. This sheet (for obvious reason like it's size) offers only 4 options.

Click on images below to see larger images

  • Option 1: Nakajima B5N1 Kate  #3-356 of 12th Kokutai, China 1939
  • Option 2: same aircraft after receiving camouflage on upper surfaces
  • Option 3: Nakajima B6N2 Jill #51-301 of Kokutai No. 551, Truck Islands, June 1944
These 3 options were identical ones from the 1/72nd scale sheet. However the last option is completely new.

Option 4: Aichi D3A1 Val from Aircraft Carrier Kaga, Pearl Harbor Attack, December 7th 1941. Aircraft was part of 2nd wave dive-bombing command, flown by NAP 4/C Shinsaku Yamakawa and carries Donation slogan (Hokoku) No.522 on the fuselage. The decal of the slogan seems to be corrected in form of 2 small decals (corrections) added to the main sheet. They are printed more finely than the ones on the main sheet.

My sample appears in perfect register and is printed very crisp.

Instruction sheet with color profiles is printed on quality glossy paper and is in English. All the decal placements are very clearly shown and included are even color suggestions for propelers of all of the aircraft.

Recommended listed colors are from the Gunze Mr. Color Range.
Included is also list of available kits (all Hasegawa) and complete list of references.
I would recommend this decal sheet to anyone slightly interested in WWII Imperial Japanese Naval Aircraft.

These decals are available at www.Hannants.co.uk and www.Flightdecs.ca. You can also go directly to www.risingdecals.com to see more exciting sheets listed for release in near future.

Thank you Mirek Karnik for supplied samples and looking forward meeting you again at this year's eDay in Prague in September!
