I needed
some way of convincing my wife that we had to have our new son exposed
to aviation at an early age. He needed a mobile above his bed, so after
20 years of not building models I set out on the task of putting this
together.
I looked
around for some 1/144th kits, and not a lot were available in country in
Australia, so I put out a call to other modellers on the net for
any surplus kits that were on the scrap pile. Ray Seppala came to the
rescue with a box full of goodies and I found a 1/350th USS ENTERPRISE
with its airwing at a garage sale for a great price, the others I
managed to find at some local shops.

The kits
themselves didn't have to be accurate, just the basic shape, I wouldn't
recommend some of these kits for the serious modeller but they fit the
bill for me. Some careful filling and shaping fixed what I needed. I
used fencing wire for the support and bent it into a cork-screw shape, I
then test fit and spaced the planes using blue-tac. The colors of the
rainbow were painted on and they were attached with epoxy.
This now
hangs above my sons crib for him to gaze up at and daddy's happy that
he's started in the right direction in his aviation life.
