F-80C FUERZA AÉREA ECUATORIANA circa 1956-1958

Hello everybody…!!!  Here I am again with another marvel for ARC. This time I present to you my recent job about this F-80C Lockheed Shooting Star - Airfix 1/72, which used to be operated by our air force: FUERZA AÉREA ECUATORIANA between 1956 and 1958.  After 1958 some of this fighters were brought back to U.S.A.F. and just two or three remain parked at air museums with the “Taura Squadron” livery which this aircraft never used by the way.

The kit, well it's a good kit after all and after having a few head-aches when assembling the parts, especially when trying to fit some pieces like the air intakes, which had to be re-shaped in order to make them fit in to place. But the most important job was that I had to make some scratch-built process to make this model more attractive and more real.

I decided to finish this little jewel in aluminum, but I have never tried aluminum foil before so I didn't know how to work with this technique on a model specially in 1/72.  After thinking a lot and after some research on the Internet and discovered a few articles about Bare Metal Foil.  I decided that this technique was the ideal one for finishing my model as I wanted it should looks like.  So here it is my F-80C “FAE” 1/72nd scale finished in natural metal using aluminum metal foil for my very first time.  I hope you folks would knew disregard some mistakes I made while gluing panels to the model.  I think it's fine.  Decals and stencils are home made using Testors clear and white decal paper.

The original Airfix tip tanks were not as accurate as they had to be to represent the Ecuadorian version of this plane. So I had to cut the wing tips off and by using a couple of rods on each end I replaced the original tip-tanks for a couple of better shaped resin ones from AVM Models from Chile. Then I cut the flaps to fix them down and detailed the ribs with some plastic card. I added the bombs under wings and “voila”. The results were excellent. I feel happy. You can see it on the pictures. If you would like to see more pictures about more of my models about “FUERZA AÉREA ECUATORIANA” you can visit the following link:
